Taken in a bit of sunlight, not full sun.
A scary close up! Yeah, my cuticles look better in person!
Since I'm not crazy about Halloween colors on my nails, I went with a polish this week that looks like candy instead. Don't get me wrong, I love Halloween manicures on others, just not me. Though I think I would like a candy corn water marbled manicure, but don't currently own those colors. This polish looks like a Jawbreaker candy.
This past year I have really explored the world of nail polishes, stepping outside the OPI box. OPI is my favorite polish, since I find it chips the least on my nails. But after reading blogs about other polish brands I decided to start trying them. To my shock and amazement, I found out about what they call "Indie" polishes. There are ladies out there coming up with their own polish and selling them on Etsy, Facebook and their websites. Wow, I'm amazed! Can you imagine sitting at your kitchen table or craft table and playing with glitter and polish and coming up with your own line of nail polish?!? Wow! If it wasn't for the fumes, I'd probably try this out myself, but I don't want to expose my dogs to the fumes. So while tempted, I will pass on this crafty idea and leave my crafty years behind me for awhile longer. So I found a nail polish swap on a Julep forum on Facebook and purchased 4 Indie polishes. This is one of them.
Jawbreaker by Pretty & Polished - it has red, blue, purple and yellow glitter in a white base. The above photos feature two coats of Manicure Keeper by Orly (rubberized base coat to prevent chips), three coats of Jawbreaker, and one clear top coat of Seche Vite. You could go with two coats, but I could still see the white tips of my nails and I don't care for that look. It's pretty smooth to the touch despite the glitter. I will put another top coat on in a day or two. If you would like to purchase this polish, visit her Etsy shop here.
So there you have it, my first manicure using an Indie polish. Have you tried an Indie polish yet? I dare you!
