This is a review of a weekly subscription box called Plated for $72. This week all three recipes we rated with four out of five stars. They were all so delicious!

Soy Glazed Trout en Papillote with Sesame Green Beans & Snow Peas

Anytime I see a recipe that includes trout, I immediately purchase it since I love trout. The trout was cooked in a sauce that was so incredibly delicious. The sauce was made with soy sauce, honey, doubanjiang chili paste and rice wine vinegar. The trout was baked inside parchment paper which made it so moist. I'm not a big fan of green beans and snow peas, so I would have preferred different vegetables. If it had been something else I would have given it five out five stars instead of four. The shichimi togarashi spice, scallions and sesame oil were a nice addition to the vegetables. This recipe took about 35 minutes and it had only 430 calories. Sometimes low calorie dishes leave me unfulfilled and still a bit hungry, but this one was filling.

Basil Radiator Pasta with Vine Ripe Tomato Sauce & Fresh Mozzarella

Every time I see Plated offer pasta from Sfoglini I purchase that recipe, since I absolutely love their high quality, unique pasta from New York City. This time they supplied us with radiator pasta that was made with basil. The ridges of the pasta held the sauce very well. The texture of the pasta was absolute perfection! Hubby added additional red pepper since he likes his food extra spicy. The addition of bread crumbs was surprisingly tasty. Hubby waited until the mozzarella was melted and stirred it in so it was well mixed. The recipe didn't wait until the mozzarella melted which isn't traditional Italian cooking. I had just watched the Giada in Italy show on the Food Network hours earlier where she made a traditional Italian dish and she said to make sure you waited until the mozzarella melted and to stir it in. So I found that part of the recipe to be strange. This recipe said it would take about 40 minutes, but in fact it took much longer. It would have tasted better if the sauce had be simmered for and hour or more. While I appreciate them trying to keep the cooking time down, I think they should have optional instructions for those of us who would like to cook it traditionally and take the extra time for even more flavor. It had 700 delicious calories. Who cares about calories when it tastes this good! We gave this recipe four out of five stars due to the mozzarella issue and the cooking time being way off. The portion was huge and I had enough leftovers for one lunch.

Beef & Eggplant Moussaka

While this dish isn't very pretty on the plate, it received four out of five stars from me and five out of five from Hubby. It tasted like a secret recipe your Greek Grandmother would make, if you had one. The addition of cinnamon & nutmeg to the beef made for a unique flavor. I couldn't figure out what the spice was when I tasted it, so when I looked at the recipe I was quite surprised. The mixture of yogurt, percorino cheese and egg made for a delicious cheesy topping. This portion was huge and I had enough leftovers for one lunch.

What an enjoyable week of recipes this was! If you check out my blog post that compares Plated, Home Chef, Hello Fresh & Blue Apron you will see that Plated comes out on top for the highest percentage of four and five star recipes. If you haven't given Plated a try yet, you owe it to yourself to do so soon. I highly recommend their service. Unfortunately, I have given away all nine of my free Plated boxes, so I won't have another Plated giveaway unless they give me some more to share in the future.
