This is a review of a food subscription box called Hello Fresh. This week we gave all three recipes three out of five stars. The recipes were just ok, nothing special nor worth repeating, though I would make the grilled cheese sandwich again on my own with fresher bread.

Smoky Sloppy Joes with Pickled Red Onion, Shredded Carrot Salad & Cilantro Lime Vinaigrette

Out of the three recipes this one was my favorite. It was a very generous portion, but we needed two more buns since the meat mixture wouldn't fit on just two buns. I love sloppy joes and this was an interesting version since they added jalapeño, cumin and chili powder to make a spicy version. While I love spicy foods, I think I like the original version of this recipe more. The cilantro lime vinaigrette was very tasty and a nice low calorie dressing for salads. It was easy to make and included just a few ingredients:  lime juice, cilantro, olive oil, honey and salt & pepper. They included honey from France which was so tasty.

Corn Flake & Honey Crusted Chicken with Parmesan Broccoli & Yellow Rice with Peas

This was our least favorite recipe for the week. We didn't care for the corn flakes, honey, paprika and garlic powder topping for the chicken. The mixture tasted strange. The rice and peas were tasty, but the parmesan cheese on top of the broccoli was unpleasant. We would have preferred cheddar cheese on top of the broccoli instead. The broccoli wasn't very fresh, but I received a store credit when I complained.

Fig & Brie Grilled Cheese with Crispy Mushroom & Arugula Salad

If I couldn't only pick one thing to eat every day I would chose grilled cheese sandwiches, so when I saw this recipe I had to try it. I really enjoyed this sandwich, but the cheese didn't melt enough. The combination of fig jam and brie cheese was wonderful. The bread wasn't very fresh though, so that's one reason this recipe received three stars from me and two out of five stars from Hubby. It was nice that they sent us brie that was made in France. The other issue we had with this recipe was the salad dressing. The mixture of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt & pepper wasn't pleasant. The dressing would have tasted better with some lemon or lime juice added to it. The salad had too few ingredients to be enjoyable. The rosemary was dry, so I complained about that also and received a credit. I was also disappointed they didn't include butter since their competition always includes that ingredient when necessary.
