This is a review of our 5th shipment from an organic food subscription service called Green Chef. This week all the recipes I chose were Paleo and gluten free. Calories ranged from only 490 to 550 and cooking times were all around thirty minutes. We gave one recipe four out of five stars, one recipe three stars and one only one star. This is the first week that we had a recipe we didn't like at all.

Shrimp & Apple Salad, Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Malaysian Curry & Spinach

We gave this recipe four out of five stars. This was the first time I've eaten apple with my shrimp, it was surprising pleasing. They premade the creamy coconut lime vinaigrette and the seasoning for us. They also precut the sweet potatoes, carrots and cabbage for us which saved us time. The curry seasoning mix tasted quite different than what I'm use to when it comes to curry spices. Thankfully, they gave us a good amount of shrimp. I stopped ordering shrimp from the competition since they send so little. It was a very tasty meal especially considering it only had 500 calories and it was a generous portion of food.

Steak Caponata, Cedar Roasted Eggplant, Capers & Romesco Sauce

We gave this one only one star since it was so tart we didn't eat it all. I was really excited to try eggplant cooked on cedar planks which they generously provided. Unfortunately, after broiling the eggplant in the oven they had us add it to a pan with garlic, olives, onions, celery and capers which overwhelmed any cedar flavor to the point we couldn't taste any cedar. The Remesco sauce they premade for us was too tart, along with the capers, green olives and the sweetened red wine vinegar. The red wine vinegar lost it's sweetness since it was mixed with so many tart ingredients. Also, cooking the eggplant twice gave it a mushy consistency. It sure did smell good when it was broiling on the cedar planks, so we were really disappointed they didn't just leave it alone after that. We will enjoy reusing the planks with salmon which is always tasty. The grass fed steak was of high quality as usual. This is the first Green Chef recipe that we disliked. This one had 550 calories and it was a generous portion.

Moroccan Apricot Chicken, Roasted Veggies, Glazed Carrots & Coconut Dressing

We gave this recipe three out of four stars. They premade the  Coconut cilantro dressing and the apricot sauce. We really liked the apricot sauce but we weren't in love with the coconut cilantro dressing. The chicken portion was smaller than we usually receive from Green Chef, so that was disappointing. While it was a generous portion overall, it landed up being mostly vegetables. This one only had 490 calories which is surprising since it didn't taste like diet food nor was it a small portion.

This landed up being our least favorite week of recipes from Green Chef so far. Perhaps we aren't fans of the Paleo diet. I'm going to switch back to carnivore since those recipes are the most pleasing to us. Stay tuned for my review of our 6th shipment.
