This is a review of a weekly food subscription box called Sun Basket. We gave one recipe five out of five stars, one recipe four stars and two recipes two stars. Three of the four recipes are gluten free and paleo and one recipe is also vegetarian. Calories range from 250 to 720 and preparation time ranges from five to forty minutes.

Orange Almond Smoothies

I love that Sun Basket offers two breakfasts for the price of one dinner. The competition only offers one. I love smoothies, but sometimes I don't have the time to make five smoothies a week which is offered from Green Blender, so this is a nice substitution. This smoothie tasted like an Orange Julius yet it's much healthier. This recipe uses almonds and almond milk and extremely delicious Cara Cara oranges. If you haven't tasted Cara Cara oranges before you need to run to the nearest grocery store that carries them and buy them. It has a richer, juicier and sweeter taste. It had 250 calories and it only took a few minutes to prepare. It's a paleo, vegetarian and gluten free recipe.

Swedish Meatballs with Lingonberry Jam & Mashed Potatoes

My Scottish Mum served me and my English & Swedish father Swedish meatballs on a regular basis during my childhood, so I'm a big fan and had to order this recipe. I'm quite critical, so I was quite delighted that I fell in love with the flavors of this recipe, this one is very impressive. I gave it five out of five stars! Hubby gave it four of five stars, but what does he know he doesn't have any Swedish heritage, so let's discount his evaluation. I agree with him that it should have been ground beef or lamb instead of turkey for more supreme flavor, but turkey is a healthier choice. We were disappointed that we were only given one potato, it was suppose to be a half pound of Yukon Gold potatoes. To make this one more delicious, I suggest more of the spice which is all spice and nutmeg and the addition of some brown sugar would have made it perfection. Also, we would have liked more of the jam, it seemed like too small a portion for two people, but it was of high quality and so tasty. The egg broke during shipping, but that's the first time that has happened. Their packaging is really good, being the busy time of the year for shipping damage is more likely to happen. This recipe had 720 calories and it took about thirty-five minutes to prepare.

Avgolemono Chicken Soup with Lemon, Egg and Cauliflower Rice

We both gave this recipe two out of five stars which is a very low rating which we rarely give Sun Basket. In the recipe's photo they show something red, but none of the ingredients included anything red, maybe that was the issue, something flavorful was missing. This one was very bland. We waited until the sixth day to prepare, they recommend cooking within five days of delivery and so the cauliflower was bad and Hubby substituted some jasmine rice. This one has only 580 calories and it takes up to forty minutes to prepare. It's a paleo and gluten free recipe.

Spicy Mexican Scramble

Hubby and I both love really spicy food, but we found this one to be too spicy, so that was quite the surprise. Hubby gave it three out of five stars and I gave it two stars. I made mine into a taco instead of having the tortilla on the side. It's a vegetarian, gluten free and paleo breakfast with only 270 calories. Preparation time was around fifteen minutes.

While this wasn't our favorite week of recipes from Sun Basket, the Swedish Meatballs and the smoothie were so very impressive. We look forward to our next shipment arriving tomorrow. I highly recommend you give this meal kit a try and at 50% off how can you resist! Click on the link below to receive your discount.
