This is the review of our 13th shipment from a weekly food subscription service called Blue Apron. This week we gave two recipes four out of five stars and one recipe two stars. Calories ranged from 520 to 770 and preparation time ranged from thirty-five to forty-five minutes.

Seared Barramundi with Collard Greens, Fregola Sarda & Shallot Agrodolce

I was really excited to try this recipe since I've never had Barramundi fish before. Look at it's photo above prior to cooking, it's skin is so beautiful and colorful. We gave this recipe four out of five stars. The fish was very tasty and the topping made with golden raisins, shallot, honey, vinegar and red pepper was a perfect compliment. Actual preparation time was forty-five minutes and the recipe indicated thirty-five to forty-five minutes. Calories came in at only 520 yet it was a filling portion.

Masala Spiced Chicken with Kale & Lime Rice

I'm happy to report that the chicken breasts were of a good size since a year ago Blue Apron's portions kept getting smaller and we cancelled. We gave this recipe four out of five stars. The masala spice blend was a tasty combination which included sweet paprika, coriander, turmeric, cumin, cardamon, cayenne pepper and nutmeg. The sauce and jasmine rice were also delicious. The actual preparation time was fifty minutes and the recipe indicated thirty-five to forty-five minutes. Calories came in at 770 and it was a generous portion.

Seared Steaks with Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Sautéed Broccoli

We gave this recipe only two out of five stars. The steak was inedible since it was too tough. We did not like lemon zest on the broccoli. They only provided one potato for two people which was half a portion. Sure it comes in at only 520 calories, but to stay full long enough it should be one potato per person not half a potato! It took Hubby forty minutes to prepare and the recipe indicated thirty-five to forty-five minutes.

Two out of three recipes were enjoyed. We are hoping our next shipment will be better. We are expecting our next shipment in two weeks. 1. Agree with you on the masala chicken and lime rice - it was very good. A little spicy for me but not too bad. We liked the beef and broccoli dish. We both liked the broccoli with the lemon, it was a nice change of pace then the standard steamed version. Not sure how big your potato was, but ours was plenty for each of us to have a decent serving of the mashed potatoes. We didn't do the fish since my dh doesn't like it. We waffle back and forth on Blue Apron and keeping it or not. I would like to try Sun Basket since it has both gluten free and the paleo options

    1. Yeah, our potato was a small one so it wasn't filling. Plus, potatoes are cheap. You could order the fish and make it for yourself, a couple of lunches. That's what I do with some vegetarian dishes I know Hubby wouldn't be crazy about. You should snag my three free meals coupon and give Sun Basket a try! It's our favorite! I'm surprised that most of their recipes are paleo and gluten free. Green Chef also offers those options, but those that are paleo tend to be our least favorite whereas it's not the case with Sun Basket.
