This is a review of a weekly food subscription box called Home Chef. This week we gave one recipe three out of five stars and the other two recipes only two stars. Preparation time ranged from twenty-five minutes to over an hour and calories ranged from 475 to 939.

Shrimp with Tiger Sauce and Charred Zucchini

We both gave this recipe three out of five stars. The jasmine rice was of low quality, some of the green onions were wilted and the zucchini had some freeze damage from shipping and it was very small. The cooking instructions shouldn't have said to cook the shrimp on high, one should never cook them at too high a temperature. We enjoyed the sauce. This one had only 475 calories and preparation time was twenty-five to thirty-five minutes.

Cherry & Goat Cheese Stuffed Pork Tenderloin with Honey Butter Braised Carrots & Duchess Potatoes

Hubby gave this recipe two out of three stars and I gave it three stars. The dried cherries were tart instead of sweet and the tenderloin was a bit dry. The mashed potatoes recipes from them are usually scrumptious, but this recipe was very dry and they added egg to it, which is so strange that I wonder if it was a typo. The only yummy thing in the entire dish was the carrots which were cooked in butter, honey and thyme sprigs. This one had 939 calories and it takes from forty to fifty minutes to prepare. I thought I had taken a photo of the ingredients, but I can't find it anywhere. It was a busy time during the holidays!

Christmas Side Trio

We made two of the three sides, since we aren't a fan of bread pudding. We just enjoyed the baguette with butter with one of our dinners instead. It was very tasty. We gave the other two recipes two out of five stars. I thought it would be impossible to come up with a sweet potato recipe that isn't really tasty, but they managed to do just that. They added orange juice to the mashed sweet potatoes and it was so tart. The brown butter pecans were awful, we just picked them off and threw them away. I usually enjoy brussels sprout recipes from them, but this one was so simple with just rosemary, so it wasn't very tasty. It was very disappointing. This one had 899 calories for all three recipes, but we only made two. All three recipes require over an hour preparation time.

It was a very disappointing week of recipes, so I'm going to cancel some upcoming shipments that I was planning to have shipped. I'm going to stick with Sun Basket since they have been the most rewarding lately and lower in calories by far. What's your favorite subscription box service?
