This is a review of a sushi & hibachi restaurant located in Fuquay Varina, North Carolina called Kumo Sushi. I visited on a Friday around 2 pm. They are closed on Mondays. The hours Tuesday through Friday are 11 am to 3 pm and 4:30 pm to 10 pm. Saturday and Sunday they are open from noon to 10 pm. Their health score is 97%, which is very good. When we arrived we were immediately seated at a booth. They only had two other customers.

We ordered from the lunch menu which is less expensive. I ordered the "Any Three Rolls" and I picked the Shrimp Tempura Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll and the Alaska Roll. It comes with soup or salad and I ordered the Miso Soup. The soup was served barely warm though it was tasty. The Alaska Roll states on the menu that it includes "salmon, avocado and cucumbers". It's shown on the far left in the photo above. It was pretty good, but all of the rolls tasted like the quality you get from a grocery store. The second one in the photo is the Spicy Salmon Roll which I disliked the most and didn't even eat it all. It appeared to be ground up salmon mixed with ground up tempura batter. I've had this roll at other restaurants and it didn't taste like that at all and the spice was missing. The texture was awful, so it was very unappetizing. The third roll in the picture is the Shrimp Tempura Roll which was ok though it was only five pieces instead of six. My guest had the Sashimi Lunch which is suppose to have ten pieces of sashimi when it only had nine pieces with three half slices of cucumber. The sashimi salmon pieces were the largest which are of average size compared to other restaurants. The other pieces were smaller than most restaurants serve. The quality was lower than most Asian restaurants. It also comes with salad or soup. The salad was made up of iceberg lettuce, a bit of red cabbage, carrot and cucumber. The lettuce was very crisp.

Our soup and salad were brought out in about five minutes and our main entrees came out about ten minutes later. Service was quite fast, but the waitress didn't have the friendliest or best attitude. The table next to us, as shown above, wasn't cleared until half way through our meal. The customers left prior to our arrival. That's a pet peeve of mine, it's really unappetizing to sit next to dirty dishes. She had nothing else to do, yet chose to just stand around instead of clearing the table in a timely manner. She really seemed to have a bad attitude about working there as if she was doing the owner a favor and certainly not taking pride in her work. The decor is ok, but the tables and chairs are in desperate need of maintenance. They are all scratched up and worn. I would only recommend this restaurant at lunch when it's less expensive and if you are ok with lower quality. I certainly wouldn't recommend ordering from their expensive dinner menu. I had waited a long time to try this restaurant out due to the low ratings. Recently the ratings have gone up, so I decided to give it a try only to my disappointment. If you want great sushi and sashimi, try Sushi Thai in Cary or Ajisai in Raleigh. Those are my favorites and I highly recommend them.
